Manuel Gómez Morín

Manuel Gómez Morín ( born February 27, 1897 in Batopilas, Chihuahua, † April 19, 1972 in Mexico City ) was a Mexican politician, founder of the Partido Acción Nacional ( PAN) and rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM). He was one of the leading money politicians of the country.

Biography

Gómez, who belonged to the generation of 1915, was the son of the Spaniard Manuel Gómez Castillo and Concepción de Morín Avellano from Parral. Shortly after his birth, his father died at the age of 24 years, after which his mother sold the house and moved with her son first to Chihuahua, and then to León, where he developed the " Colegio del Sagrado Corazón " and then the " María Inmaculada " school visited. After another move to Mexico City from 1913 he could get at the local Escuela Nacional Preparatoria for university and studied law at the Universidad Autónoma de México at the time when it was not yet autonomous. In the years 1915-1919 he earned the livelihood of the family through the correction of tests to articles in revolutionary leaves added. In 1918 he graduated as a lawyer, lectured in the field of legal and constitutional law at the Universidad Autónoma de México and worked as a Secretary for Finance from 1919 to 1921 in the Secretaría de Hacienda y Crédito Público. In 1924 he married Lidia Fuentes Torres, with whom he brought the children Juan Manuel, Gabriela, Mauricio and Margarita to the world. From 1925 to 1929 he was legitimate representative at the Soviet Embassy in various legal matters. From October 23 1933 to October 26, 1934, he was rector of the UNAM and received in 1934 by this honorary doctorate. Gómez was also a member of the Organizing Committee of the Banco Nacional de Obras y Servicios Públicos ( Banobras ) participated among others in the first study, Commission on Social Security and created in 1926 the first Mexican law for agricultural loans. He was involved in the 1936 creation of the legal basis for the controlled Mexican VISA holding company headquartered in Monterrey. In 1939 he founded, together with Luis Calderón Vega, the PAN and was there until 1945 chairman of the party. In 1945 he became a member of the first Board of the University UNAM.
