Marathon Oil Corporation is an international energy company. The company is mainly engaged in the production and marketing of hydrocarbons (oil sands) and natural gas. The company also promotes oil in Angola, Canada, Equatorial Guinea, Libya, Norway, Indonesia, the UK and the USA. Headquartered in Houston.

History

The Ohio Oil Company was founded in 1887. In 1889 the company was taken over by the Standard Oil Company and incorporated into the company. In 1911, the Standard Oil Company was finally shattered. From the company among other things, the Marathon Oil Corporation 34 individual companies emerged.

1998 formed the Marathon Oil Corporation together with the Ashland Inc., the subsidiary Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC. The Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC takes care of production and sales of crude oil and petroleum in the United States. On 30 June 2005, Marathon Oil Corporation purchased Ashland's share of 50 %. Thus, the subsidiary of the company is 100% owned.

In 2003, the company sold its shares of Husky Energy to the billionaire Li Ka -shing.

Marathon Oil is increasingly focusing on oil sands. So the company produced in the year 2009 600 million barrels of synthetic oil from oil sands. The company operates seven refineries (all in the U.S.) with a total capacity of 1.2 million barrels of crude per day. In addition, Marathon Oil operates service stations in 1600 in the United States of America.

The company is listed on the S & P 500 and the NYSE U.S. 100.

On 1 July 2011, the now Marathon Petroleum Marathon Ashland Petroleum hot end was again split off from the company and took over the logo of Marathon Oil, which is now led a new one.

Turnover

The Marathon Oil Corporation recorded in 2009, due to lower oil and gas prices, revenues and profits slump by 31.09 percent. However, the group returns in the first quarter of 2010 with a profit back. This is, according to the Group, to the austerity measures.
