Marcel Pérès

Marcel Pérès ( born July 15, 1956) is a French church musician, composer, musicologist. He directs the Ensemble Organum.

Life

Marcel Pérès studied organ music at the Music Academy of Nice. His studies of church music started Pérès continued in England at the Royal School of Church Music and in Montreal in early music.

After his return from Canada, Marcel Pérès formed in the Subject Medieval Music, under the direction of Michel Huglo the Institute École Pratique des Hautes Etudes, continued.

In 1982 he founded the Ensemble Organum. With this ensemble Pérès began, according to earlier scientific work and investigation, starting from the 6th to implement the lesser known areas of medieval music, especially the chant of the Roman Catholic Church until the 13th century in a contemporary acoustic form.

From the year 1984, Marcel Pérès head of the Association for the Study and interpretation of medieval music and the old Roman church singing. The Association carries out its scientific activities in the Abbaye de Royaumont. Previously musical research results were acoustically implemented by the Ensemble Organum annually. Internationally Marcel Pérès is scientifically jointly with the Greek church musician Lykourgos A. Angelopoulos.
