Marcelino Olaechea

Marcelino Olaechea Loizaga SDB ( born January 9, 1889 in Baracaldo, † October 2, 1972 in Valencia) was a Spanish religious priests and archbishop of Valencia.

In 1897, he had come into the Salesian College of Baracaldo, 1901, he joined the formation house of the Salesians after Villaverde de Pontones. In the novitiate and philosophical studentate of Carabanchel Alto, he studied philosophy. He studied theology in international studentate the Salesians of Turin.

On December 20, 1915 Olachea ordained a priest and was then director of several religious colleagues (1915 in La Coruna and 1917 in Carabanchel ). Later, he was provincial in Catalonia, Valencia and Madrid.

In 1933 he visitierte, commissioned by the Holy See, the seminars of the ecclesiastical provinces of Valencia, Granada and Seville. In 1934 he became director of the Salesian College Ronda de Atocha in Madrid.

It was during the Spanish Civil War and after 1935 to 1946 Bishop of Pamplona. The episcopal ordination was carried out on 27 October 1935 in Madrid by Cardinal Federico Tedeschini.

On 17 February 1946 he became Pope Pius XII. appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Valencia and remained so until his retirement on 18 November 1966. Pope Paul VI. subsequently appointed him Titular Archbishop of Subbar, whose title he resigned on 11 December 1970.

He was buried in the Cathedral of Valencia in the chapel of Santo Tomás de Villanueva.
