Marcelle Lender

Marcelle Lender (* 1862 in Nancy, † September 27, 1926 ) was a French singer, dancer and entertainer who became famous by the drawings of Henri de Toulouse- Lautrec.

She was born as Anne -Marie Marcelle Bastien. They first learned the trade of a milliner. At the age of 16, she began to dance. In Paris she first appeared at the Théâtre des Batignolles on, and later at the Théâtre Michel in Saint Petersburg. In 1889, she returned to Paris and made in the next few years with performances at the Théâtre des Variétés in Montmartre a name.

Marcelle Lender appear on different images Lautrec, but the most notable of these images is a 1895 published book of the artist, the Lender Dancing the Bolero shows the. This portrait Lautrec of her in full costume and with flame- red hair helped her through publication in a Paris magazine to even greater prominence. This painting was later sold to a collector from the United States. Since 1998, the picture in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC is located.
