Marcin Wasilewski (pianist)

Marcin Wasilewski ( born 1975 ) is a Polish jazz pianist, bandleader and composer.

Biography

Wasileski grew up in Koszalin in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, where attended high school; there he met with fifteen years the bassist Slawomir Kurkiewicz, with whom in 1990 he founded a trio; 1993 joined as the drummer Michał Miśkiewicz. As Simple Acoustic Trio they won in their home country and in Europe numerous competitions, including the European Jazz Competition in Leverkusen, and put five albums on local labels before. Wasilewski has since been working with this trio of Kurkiewicz and Miśkiewicz, with whom he participated at the 2001 ECM album Soul of Things Tomasz Stanko his mentor; he went several times with Stańko on tours and also appeared at the quartet recordings Suspended Night ( 2003) and Lontano (2005) with. Furthermore, the trio with Manu Katché worked.
