Marco Antonio Rubio

Marco Antonio Rubio ( born June 16, 1980 in Gómez Palacio, Durango, Mexico) is a Mexican professional boxer.

Boxing career

Rubio is a professional boxer since 2000 and spent the beginning of his career in Mexico, where he was able to achieve success in the first half middleweight. In 2004, he first appeared in the U.S. and was given a chance against Kofi Jantuah in a WBC eliminator in the middleweight division to compete. However Jantuah won this fight by a knockout in the first round with a left hook after he met of which the latter could not recover Rubio. Two years later, Rubio got another chance in a WBC eliminator to compete. On 6 May 2006 he entered against former IBF world champion Kassim Ouma on. This time Rubio recorded a rainfall for already in the first round. However, Ouma recovered and was able to continue the fight over twelve rounds. Rubio lost that fight on points where two judges and one voted against him for him.

In the aftermath Rubio punched back in Mexico increased to him in 2008 once again the chance to win a WBC eliminator in the U.S. attracted. He joined October 18, 2008 against his compatriot Enrique Ornelas in Atlantic City. This fight should end with a split point judgment, but this time concurred with the happier end for Rubio for the two referee. Thus, Rubio had the chance of a battle with reigning World Boxing Council and WBO middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik saved. The fight took place in Youngstown, Ohio on February 21, 2009. However, it was a one-sided fight, so Rubio's corner in the ninth round threw in the towel.

Rubio then punched again in his native Mexico and went there since then also in the super middleweight division. However, he returned to middleweight and fought in 2011 in Montreal, Canada against David Lemieux. He won this fight with a technical knockout in the seventh round, thus securing the legal challenge against the winner of the fight between Sebastian Zbik and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the World Champion title of the WBC. Chávez was able to win against Zbik provides a brief, controversial points victory.

The fight against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. for the WBC world champion middleweight title was held in San Antonio on February 4, 2012. Rubio lost the battle but convincingly on points.
