Marco Campos

Marco Campos ( born February 24, 1976 in Curitiba, † October 15th 1995 in Paris, France) was a Brazilian racing driver. He won the 1994 championship of the Formula Opel Euro Series. In 1995, he died following an accident in Formula 3000 on the Circuit de Nevers Magny -Cours.

Career

Campos began his motorsport career in 1988 in karting, where he was active until 1993. He won the Pan American Championship in 1992 and 1993 and in 1993 the South American Kart champion. In 1994 Campos to Europe in formula racing. For the Draco Junior Team, he raced in the Formula Opel Euro Series. On the last lap of the last race of the season 1995 in the Circuit de Nevers Magny -Cours Campos had an accident with fatal consequences. Before the Adelaide hairpin, he dueled with Thomas Biagi, who had given his debut in this race. The Brazilians wanted Biagi overtake on the right. Here, his left front wheel touched the right rear of the enemy. The Bolide Campos was thrown into the air and rolled over. Here, his car wandered the perimeter wall and his helmet crashed into the concrete wall. Campos retired as injuries to the skull and a brain trauma and fell into a coma. Campos was taken to Paris Lariboisière Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was only 19 years old.

Campos was the only racer who was killed in a 3000 race in the formula.
