Marco - Over seas and mountains is a six-part Christmas series ZDF from 1991, directed by Pino Passalacqua. The filming was a German - Italian co-production based on a story from the children's book Cuore of Edmondo De Amicis. The original Italian title is Dagli Appennini all changes. The screenplay was written by Roberta Colombo. Another film version of the story is the animated series Marco of 1976.

Action

The 13 - year-old Marco lives most of the year in a Swiss boarding school. When he visits his father Vittorio over the Christmas days in the city of Venice, he sees by chance late in the evening a documentary about the victims of the Argentine military dictatorship. He believes he has found on a picture his mother Beatrice, whom he has never met and in Argentina are among the desaparecidos ( the disappeared ) counts. Marco then begins to believe that his mother was still alive. When he wants to tell his father about the adventurous discovery, this is not because he has suffered a heart attack and they brought him to the hospital.

Marco decides then to look for his mother alone and takes first with Antonio Godoy, an Argentine friend of his father, contact. With a forged signature on the ticket, it creates Marco actually come to Argentina. In the family of Antonio Godoy it is taken very loving. His father's friend goes with Marco through the country, but soon it becomes clear that Godoy is not the man of honor, for all hold him. He is very afraid that his past might come to light and wants Marco intimidated by two sinister men who break the night in his hotel room.

Marco manages to escape it. Then begins for him an adventurous odyssey through the land of his mother: on foot, by boat, on horseback and by rail. More than once is Marco doing a stowaway and is in life-threatening situations. Not all people he followed ( fair seller, captain, Gaucho, gang of children ), are well disposed towards him. But he also meets again and again to people who help him and believe in him. In the end it is the coincidence that leads him and his father, who is now recovered and traveled after Marco is in a sanatorium for the victims of the military regime and ending its journey can be happy.
