Margaret Sheridan

Margaret Elizabeth Sheridan ( born October 29, 1926 in Los Angeles, † May 1, 1982 in Orange, California ) was an American actress.

Sheridan, who worked before her film career as a stewardess and model, was discovered by producer and director Howard Hawks for acting. Hawks offered her in 1948 as the female lead in his Western Red River, which Sheridan refuses, however, as they expected their first child. A year earlier she had married the pilot William Pattison.

Their first and most important role was that of scientific assistant Nikki Nicholson in the produced of Hawks and partially twisted sci-fi classic The Thing from Another World from 1951 was remarkable in her role, that - contrary to the spirit of the times - an intelligent, headstrong and hard-drinking heroine embodied. Usually, the object of female actresses in the horror films of the fifties is to yell, and be the hero for help to the chest to throw ( Scream Queen).

It was followed by several roles in movies, including the war film Korea ( One minute to zero) on the side of Robert Mitchum in 1952 and the thriller The judge I am ( from the Mike Hammer series) a year later. Margaret Sheridan died on 1 May 1982 in Orange, California at the age of 56 years to lung cancer.
