Orange is a city with 136 416 inhabitants ( 2010) in Southern California's Orange County. The city is part of the Greater Los Angeles.
The settlement was founded in 1869 by Andrew Glassell and Alfred Chapman received city rights in 1888. As in most other cities in Orange County, the population of Orange rose up in the 1950s to slow. But then the city by the proximity to the city Los Angeles, and great transport connections was there captured by a construction boom. This is made up - a little slow - still there today.
The Block, a large shopping and leisure center is located on the western edge of the city and attracts many visitors from surrounding cities.
Orange is the seat of the Diocese of Orange in California.
Policy
Orange has a city council consisting of four elected members for four years, and a mayor with a two- year term. After the last election in November 2012 Teresa " Tita " Smith took over the office of Carolyn V. Cavecche.
