Margarita Stāraste-Bordevīka

Margarita Stāraste, born Margarita Barvika, ( born February 2, 1914 in Vladimir, Russian Empire, † February 18, 2014 ) was a Soviet and Latvian children's book author and illustrator.

Life

Stāraste was the only daughter of the agronomist Jānis Barvík, which they promoted early artistic. She studied in the master's workshop for landscape painting of Vilhelms Purvītis and completed in 1952, the Department of Graphic Art Academy of the Latvian SSR.

Since 1937, she participated in art exhibitions and published in 1942 her first book. Stāraste illustrated, among others, children poems by Rainis, works of Dzidra Rinkule - Zemzare, Erik Ādamsons, Cecilija Dinere and Žanis Grīva has joined and own books. Altogether she wrote 20 books herself and illustrated 40

With the wood sculptor Karlis Stārasts she had a daughter. In the years 1941-1969 Stāraste was married to him, but lived only until 1950 with him. From 1992 to 2000, she moved to the Netherlands and married her childhood friend Gerrit Bordevik she knew since 1937. After his death she returned to Latvia.

As a co- author she has published in 1994 the folk song collection " Uru! Ruru " in livischer and Latvian languages ​​. 2010 was shown in the Small Hall of the Latvian National Museum of Art her life's work. Designs of their children's book " acorn man" produced director Dace Riduze an animated film that was presented at the International Film Festival in Berlin in 2011.

Stāraste was a member of the Latvian Writers 'Association since 1964 Member of the Latvian Artists' Union since 1991.
