Maria Chiara

Maria Chiara ( born January 24, 1939 in Oderzo in Venice) is an Italian soprano.

Life

She studied at the Academie Benedetto Marcello in Venice and made ​​her debut as Desdemona in Verdi's Otello at a gala performance in the Doge's Palace in Venice.

Shortly after, she was invited by the opera houses of Amsterdam, Brussels, Paris and Naples. 1969 she sang at the Arena di Verona, the Liù in Puccini's Turandot and the following year the Micaela in Carmen by Georges Bizet. In Munich and Vienna, acted as a partner of Plácido Domingo. In 1971, she guested on the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino and at the Deutsche Oper in Berlin, including in Verdi's Simon Boccanegra, conducted by Lorin Maazel.

1974 she sang the role of Tosca in the eponymous opera by Giacomo Puccini with great success at the San Carlo Opera House in Naples.

Since that time, she sings at all major opera houses around the world. 1977 She made her debut as Violetta in Verdi's La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. 1986 she sang Aida at La Scala with Luciano Pavarotti, Nikolaj Gjaurow, Juan Pons, Ghena Dimitrova and Paata Burchuladze under the direction of Lorin Maazel. A recording of this performance is also available on DVD. In the Arena of Verona, she was several times as Aida to hear and belonged for years to the public's favorite of the opera festival. From the record industry, the singer has however been largely ignored.

It is with bassist Antonio Cassinelli, her former teacher, married.
