María Espinoza

María del Rosario Espinoza Espinoza (born 29 November 1987 in Guasave ) is a Mexican Taekwondo. It was 2007 world champion at middleweight and 2008 Olympic champion in the heavyweight division.

Espinoza starts since 2003 in international championships, they won their first successes at junior level. In the Junior Pan Cup in 2003 in Rio de Janeiro, she won in the category up to 59 kg the title at the Junior World Championship 2004 in Suncheon, she reached the quarter-finals. In the adult area Espinoza took first time in 2005 in Madrid at the World Cup finals. She moved into the class up to 67 kg quarter-finals and was eliminated there against Sandra Šarić. Even more successful was the next World Cup 2007 in Beijing. Espinoza won in the category up to 72 kg in the final against Lee In -jong and was first world champion. Also, she won gold in the heavyweight division at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro. Espinoza qualified for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. In the heavy- weight over 67 kilograms, they began the competition with two wins, beat in the semifinals and in the finals Stevenson Sarah Nina Solheim and was first Mexican Olympic champion in Taekwondo. Another title she won in the heavyweight division at the Pan Championships 2010 in Monterrey.

When American Olympic Qualification Tournament 2011 in Santiago de Querétaro Espinoza reached the final and secured the participation in their second Olympic Games 2012 in London. There she won the bronze medal with a 4-2 victory over Glenhis Hernández.
