Maria Graham

Life

Lady Maria Callcott was born as the daughter of Admiral George Dundas. Even as a child she developed a keen interest in plants. She is extremely interested with flowering plants and trees. She grew up on the Isle of Man and in Cheshire. The school she attended in Oxford. In 1808 she accompanied her father on a sailing trip to India. She learned there the Captain Thomas Graham, whom she then married and took a trip to India with him. In 1811 she returned to England. Shortly thereafter, she settled for some time in Italy.
