Maria of Montferrat

Maria of Montferrat, also called Maria la Marquise (* 1192, † spring 1212 ), was a queen of Jerusalem in its own right. She was the only daughter of Queen Isabella I of their second marriage with the Margrave Conrad of Montferrat. Father's side she was descended from the family of the so Aleramiden. Her mother, however, was in 1192 also still married to her first husband Humphrey IV of Toron, of which she was divorced against their will, would also have a paternity Humfrieds into consideration.

Their daughter Yolande was born in the spring of 1212, Mary died only shortly afterwards from the effects of childbirth. Her daughter was so as the new queen Isabella II of Jerusalem, John of Brienne took over for her the regency.
