Marianne Zechmeister

Marianne Zechmeister ( born April 12, 1960 in Berchtesgaden ) is a German former alpine skier. Your strongest disciplines were the downhill and the combined. It achieved two top 10 places in the World Cup and finished ninth in the downhill at the Winter Olympics in 1980. Their older sister Christa was also a ski racer.

Career

Zechmeister won at the Junior European Championships 1975 in Mayrhofen and the bronze medal in 1977 in Kranjska Gora, the silver medal in the slalom. In the winter of 1974/75 she started in the World Cup, the first World Cup points they won but it was only on February 4, 1979, when she was in Pfronten 25th in the downhill and ninth in the combination. The next winter ( 1979/ 80) it was ranked eleven in the departure of Piancavallo and eighth in the combination of Bad Gastein, which simultaneously represented her best World Cup result. After these performances they could also at the 1980 Winter Olympics to participate in Lake Placid, who scored a world championship at the same time. At Whiteface Mountain, it reached ninth in the downhill as the best German.

In the 1980/81 season Zechmeister only drove once again when the 13th in the downhill in Val d'Isere, in the points. Then you go in the World Cup no more success, in the season 1981/82 they reached the European Cup but finished second in the downhill standings.
