Christa Zechmeister

Christa Zechmeister ( born December 4, 1957 in Berchtesgaden ) is a German former alpine skier. She specializes in the technical disciplines slalom and giant slalom and was a mid-1970s to the best slalom skiers. She won the slalom World Cup in the 1973/74 season. Overall, you get six victories in slalom world cup race. For Olympic Winter Games and World Championships, she went three times in the top ten. Her sister Marianne was also a member of the German national team.

Career

Zechmeister won on 9 December 1972 with the tenth place in the slalom in Val d'Isere their first World Cup points. After another three top 10 results they achieved at the end of the 1972/73 season with third place in the slalom at Heavenly Valley its first podium. At the Junior European Championships 1973 in Ruhpolding, she won the silver medal in the slalom behind the Norwegian Gro Woxholth.

In the 1973/74 season Zechmeister was the outstanding slalom skier. She won the first four races and was the first German slalom World Cup. It was in the eighth World Cup season also the first victory of a German in a World Cup discipline at all. In the giant slalom, she managed January 14, 1971, third place in Grindelwald their only podium in this discipline, the overall World Cup, she finished in fourth place. After their World Cup victories Zechmeister traveled as big favorite for the 1974 World Cup in St. Moritz, left there but in the slalom for the best meantime, in the first passage out. In winter 1974/75 Zechmeister won the slalom gold key race in Schruns and landed in the slalom World Cup with four other podium finishes in third place. On January 17, 1976, she celebrated her last World Cup victory in the slalom in Berchtesgaden. It remained in the 1975/76 season their only podium and she fell in the slalom World Cup back to seventh. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976, which also included a World Championship, she went in the slalom at number seven.

In the 1976/77 season, it was enough for Zechmeister at any other place on the podium in the World Cup. Her best result was a fourth place in the slalom in Maribor, in the slalom World Cup she finished tenth. The biggest win of the season she succeeded by winning the German championship in 1977 in the giant slalom. At the end of the next winter she was the runner-up in the parallel slalom in Arosa for the last time on the podium. However, the race counted only for the Nation and not the slalom standings. In the other races, they came in the season 1977/78 is no longer in the top five and in the slalom World Cup for the first time in five years is not among the top 10 at the World Championships 1978 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen they finished ninth in the slalom and tenth in the giant slalom. In the 1978/79 season they once again scored three sixth places and another top - 10 finish in tenth place in the slalom World Cup. In their last World Cup season 1979/80 they came in any more races in the top ten.
