Mariano Latorre

Mariano Latorre Lautaro Court (born 4 January 1886 in Cobquecura, † November 10, 1955 in Santiago de Chile) was a Chilean writer.

Life

Latorre was the son of the Spaniard Mariano de la Torre Sandelis and the French-born Fernandina Court to the world. In his childhood, the family moved several times the place of residence and moved successively to Valparaiso, Santiago de Chile, Talca and Parral. In Talca Latorre turned himself together with his friend Fernando Santiván to the literature and wrote in 1901 the first article for the magazine Luz y Sombra; later for La Actualidad, La Liberdad and Zig- Zag. Among his literary models included Émile Zola, Alphonse Daudet, Fyodor Dostoyevsky, Maxim Gorky, Charles Dickens, Guy de Maupassant and José María de Pereda. After the death of his father, he abandoned his law studies at the Universidad de Chile. He enrolled in 1908 at the Instituto Pedagógico one, studied Latin, Linguistics and Spanish Literature there. In 1915 he was appointed at the same institute professor of Spanish.

Besides Fernando Latorre Santivan used close friendships with other writers, including Baldomero Lillo, Carlos Mondaca, Rafael Maluenda, Augusto Thomsom and Mario Luis Rocuant.

Latorre 1936 the Premio Municipal de Santiago, 1944, the Premio Nacional de Literatura de Chile was awarded.

Latorre died on 10 November 1955. Among the speakers at the funeral belonged to Pablo Neruda.

Work

Latorre wrote a large number of stories that dealt with Chilean landscapes and their inhabitants. He was one of the most influential representatives of criollismo, so that spiritual flow of South America that is trying to be justified by the synthesis of Indian and European elements an independent South American culture.
