The Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point or MCAS Cherry Point is a 120 square kilometer large military airfield of the United States Marine Corps in the small town of Havelock in Craven County, North Carolina, a state of the United States on the east coast of the country. The base was built in 1941 and is used as an airfield since 1942, initially under the name Cunningham Field. Currently the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing is stationed there. Due to the length and width of the start and runways MCAS Cherry Point was suitable as an emergency landing for any false starts of the space shuttle in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
