Mario Cecchi Gori

Mario Cecchi Gori ( born March 21, 1920 in Brescia, † November 5, 1993 in Rome ) was an Italian film producer.

Life

He produced more than 200 films, often in collaboration with directors such as Damiano Damiani, Dino Risi and Ettore Scola. For his production Lame Rica ( Director: Gianni Amelio ), he received the 1994 European Film Award for Best European Film. Its production Il Postino (1995, directed by Michael Radford ) was the first foreign language film since Ingmar Bergman's Cries and Whispers (1972 ) in the category " Best Picture " nominated for an Oscar.

His work is now being continued by his son Vittorio Cecchi Gori.

From 1990 until his death was Mario Cecchi Gori also president of the Italian football club Fiorentina.

He is buried in the cemetery Cimitero delle Porte Sante.
