Mark Kozelek

Mark Kozelek ( born January 29, 1967 in Massillon, Ohio, USA) is an American singer, songwriter and founder of Red House Painters and Sun Kil Moon. He lives in San Francisco and has starred in films such as Almost Famous and Vanilla Sky with.

Career

Kozelek played at a young age in his hometown in the band God Forbid. Kozelek learned after moving to Atlanta Anthony Koutsos, the future drummer of the Red House Painters know, and founded with him to another move to San Francisco with guitarist Gorden Mack and bassist Jerry Vessel, the band, one of the pioneers of the Slowcore been. Published the Red House Painters seven albums and Shock Me EP, on the eponymous song from Kiss has been reinterpreted in a quiet robe between 1992 and 2001. This idea was so appealing for Kozelek that he has produced it again later. Problems with their label led to years of delay, the album Old Ramon and which resulted in the end of the Red House Painters.

Kozelek operational from 1999 with a solo career, in which he, inter alia, with What's Next To The Moon a full album with quiet folk versions of AC / DC songs published, and appeared in several films. In 2002 he published with Noites de Atropelo in Portugal a book with song lyrics, which was published in 2008 in an English version. Since 2003, Kozelek released his music with the project Sun Kil Moon, whose sole permanent member he is. There he took up the concept of transferring foreign genre songs in his sparsely orchestrated music, on, by having him covered songs by Modest Mouse on the AlbumTiny Cities.

He produced the albums Demerol and River of Darkness the friendly singer Hannah Marcus and supported Richard Buckner at the Arrangements for the Unreleased LP. Kozelek supported the band Retribution Gospel Choir, a side project of the friendly band Low, first as a member and later as a producer of their debut album of the same name.
