Mark N. Brown

Mark Neil Brown ( born November 18, 1951 in Valparaiso, Indiana, USA ) is a former American astronaut.

Brown received in 1973 a Bachelor in aviation and aerospace engineering from Purdue University in 1980 and a master's in aerospace engineering from the Air Force Institute of Technology.

By leaving the Purdue University Brown joined the U.S. Air Force in 1974 and made his pilot's license. As an engineer, the Flight Activities Section Brown came 1980 on the Johnson Space Center.

Astronauts activity

In May 1984, Brown was selected by NASA as an astronaut candidate.

STS 61- N

His first division to a space shuttle crew got Brown in December 1985. He was assigned as Mission Specialist for mission STS -61- N of the U.S. Department of Defense. Another crew commander Brewster Shaw, pilot Mike McCulley, the other mission specialists Jim Adamson and David Leestma, and as payload specialist Frank Casserino of the U.S. Air Force were provided. This flight was canceled after the Challenger disaster. 1986 and 1987 helped Brown in the new development of the shuttle solid rocket boosters.

STS -28

In February 1988, Brown was assigned to a new mission. On August 8, 1989, he flew aboard the space shuttle Columbia for the first time into space. STS -28 was a flight for the U.S. Department of Defense with secret payload.

STS -48

On September 12, 1991 Brown started with the space shuttle Discovery into space. In this five- day mission, the UARS satellite was exposed to research the upper atmosphere.

Brown left the NASA and Air Force in July 1993 and went to the General Research Corporation (now AT & T) to Dayton (Ohio ). In 2003, Brown joined the Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC ), where it is vice president and general manager of the Aerospace.

Mark Brown and his wife, Lynne, have two daughters.
