Mark S. Schweiker

Mark Steven Schweiker ( born January 31, 1953 in Levittown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania) is an American politician ( Republican). He was from 2001 to 2003 Governor of the State of Pennsylvania.

Early years and political rise

Mark Schweiker attended Bishop Egan High School and then to 1975 the Bloomsburg University. After leaving school he was employed by various companies in the private sector and eventually founded his own consulting company.

Since 1979, Schweiker is politically active. In that year he was elected mayor of Middletown Township. In 1987 he received an administrative body ( Commissioner) in Bucks County. In 1994 he was elected Lieutenant Governor of Pennsylvania; In 1998 he was appointed in this position. He was the representative of Governor Tom Ridge. As lieutenant governor, he had several other tasks: He was one of the Chairmen of the Crisis Council of Pennsylvania, the Pardon and Parole Board and a commission to reduce waste and promote recycling activities. He led the broadcast control authority of the country and has been involved in commissions for terror and crime.

Governor of Pennsylvania

After the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 in Washington DC established the Department of Homeland Security of the United States, became its first Secretary Tom Ridge, the former governor of Pennsylvania, was appointed. Mark Schweiker renounced in 2002 to a possible candidacy for re-election. In 2003, he became president of the Chamber of Commerce of Philadelphia. His name was already taken as a possible candidate for the gubernatorial elections of 2010 this week, but nothing about it is decided yet. Together with his wife, Katherine, Mark Schweiger has three children.
