Marla Gibbs

Marla Gibbs ( born June 14, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American actress, singer and television producer.

Life

Gibbs was already married and had 1944 at the age of only 20 years, three children. She attended along with Sam Cooke Wendell Phillips High School in Chicago. In 1969, she divorced her husband. Prior to her film career, she works at United Airlines. She gave this profession only on when the series The Jeffersons, in which she played the role of Florence Johnston, was a success.

In addition to her role in The Jeffersons she had a starring role in the U.S. sitcom 227, which she also produced. Alongside this work she had recurring roles in series such as The Hughleys and guest appearances on such series as The Love Boat, A Different World, The Fresh Prince of Bel -Air and The King of Queens.

Gibbs operation in the 1990s, a movie theater, which was closed in 1997, and the Marla's Memory Lane jazz supper club in Los Angeles. In May 2006, she took on the CD It's Never Too Late. Together with her sister Susie Garrett, she founded the Crossroads Art Academy acting school in Los Angeles.

Awards

Gibbs was a total of five nominations 1982-2006 for the NAACP Image Award, but was it only in 1982 in the category Best Actress in a Comedy Series win The Jeffersons for her role in the series. In 1985 she was also nominated for her role in The Jeffersons for a Golden Globe. For the Emmy Award she was nominated five times from 1981 to 1985.
