Marlis Petersen

Marlis Petersen ( born 1968 in Sindelfingen, Germany ) is a German opera, recital and concert singer with the voice coloratura soprano.

Life and work

Petersen, who grew up in Tuttlingen, studied at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart school music and singing with Sylvia Geszty what they advanced through a jazz and tap dance training at the New York City Dance School in Stuttgart.

In 1994, the soprano her first engagement at the Municipal Theatre Nuremberg and sang such roles as Annie ( Der Freischütz ), Blondie ( The Abduction from the Seraglio), Oscar ( A Masked Ball), Adele ( Die Fledermaus ), Zerbinetta ( Ariadne auf Naxos ) and Queen of the Night ( Die Zauberflöte).

From 1998 to 2003 Marlis Petersen was a member of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf / Duisburg. There she sang, among others Norina ( Don Pasquale ), Morgana ( Alcina ), Marie ( Daughter of the Regiment ), but also Susanna ( The Marriage of Figaro ), Sophie ( Der Rosenkavalier ), cunning little vixen ( The Cunning Little Vixen ) and Viola ( Twelfth Night ).

2002, she was the Lulu by Alban Berg her debut at the Vienna State Opera. In this role she performed also at the Staatsoper Hamburg ( 2003), at the Lyric Opera in Chicago (2008), the Metropolitan Opera in New York City (2010 ) and the Megaron Athens. In summer 2006 she appeared for the first time at the Salzburg Festival with Mozart's Il re pastore, followed by Susanna ( The Marriage of Figaro ) in 2008. This role she also sang at the Los Angeles Opera under the baton of Plácido Domingo ( 2010).

She sang the title role in La Grande Magia Manfred Trojahn premiere at the Semperoper in Dresden and worked in Hans Werner Henze's Phaedra at the Berlin State Opera, and most recently in Aribert Reimann Medea at the Vienna State Opera. For the interpretation of this role, she was by the magazine world of opera for the second time ( first time in 2004 for their Lulu with Konwitschny / Metzmacher ) named 2010 " Singer of the Year ". 2012, it was mainly used as a recitalist on tour.

Petersen maintains a close relationship with the Theater an der Wien in 2012 as Stella (etc.) in Les Contes d' Hoffmann ( ML: Riccardo Frizza, directed by Roland Geyer ), Elettra in Idomeneo in 2013 as ( ML: René Jacobs, Director: Damiano Michieletto ) in 2014 as Violetta in La traviata ( ML: Sian Edwards, director: Peter Konwitschny ), 2015 as Alaide in La straniera (directed by Christof Loy ).

Marlis Petersen lives in Athens.
