Maroon-chinned Fruit Dove

The dark chin pigeon ( Ptilinopus subgularis ) is a species of pigeons birds. It comes in several subspecies on several Southeast Asian islands. Stock figures of this kind are not known. The species is, however, classified by the IUCN as Near Threatened ( near threatened ) because logging threatens the habitat of the dark chin pigeon.

Appearance

The dark chin - fruit dove reaches a body length of 34.5 centimeters. It is slightly smaller than a city pigeon. The name derives from the maroon patch on the throat.

Head and neck are pale ashen. The belly is greenish tinge. On the lower chest there is an ocher- colored spot, whose size varies depending on the individual. However, it is relatively large in general. The coverts are chestnut brown. The body top and the tail feathers are strong green.

Area of ​​distribution and behavior

The dark chin - pigeon is a species endemic to Indonesia. It occurs on Sulawesi and neighboring islands Peleng, Banggai, Mangole and Taliabu. It occurs mainly in the lowlands and settled both secondary as primary rainforest. About the reproductive behavior has no information.
