Martian Child

Martian Child ( Martian Child ) is an American comedy film from the year 2007. Directed by Menno Meyjes, the screenplay is by Seth Bass and Jonathan Tolins based on the novel The Martian Child by David Gerrold from the year 2003.

Action

The widowed science fiction writer David, who had in his time effort with his wife to an adoption gets spanked a call from the home. The supervisor believes Dennis, a boy who believes he came from Mars, would be the ideal child for him. After much doubt and the first meeting he wants to adopt the 8- year-olds. His own sister doubts that the widowed already coping with this challenge.

There are many initial problems. Dennis is light sensitive and very introverted. He steals and is expelled from school. Friends are hard to find for the little ones. The normal everyday life, such as breakfast, is a struggle for power. The only bright spot is a good friend of David, Harlee. With their optimistic nature makes David courage and support him or her.

While David tries to create a home for Dennis, his publishers have been waiting eagerly for his new book. David is coming under pressure. He starts a book on the Adoption of the little alien roommate to write.

Again and again has to deal with the authorities and fight for Dennis David. His understanding of the nature of Dennis to deal with the situation encountered with the authorities on anger. Only when Dennis admits at a hearing of the youth office that he had only done so when he came from Mars, he may stay with David.

After a fierce battle between David and Dennis because of an allegedly stolen license, Dennis suddenly speaks again ' Martian '. While David must put up with heavy criticism in the manuscript presentation of his publishing house, because he did not write the required science fiction trash novel, runs away Dennis and want to go back to Mars. He leaves with a homemade slide a note directing David to the observatory, where he discovered Dennis at breakneck height on the dome, where it waits for its collection by a spaceship. The final scene shows David's publisher ( Anjelica Huston ), who is on a plane and stirred reads his manuscript to an end to tears.

Ronnie Scheib praised in the journal Variety of 24 October 2007, the stunning illustrations of John Cusack and Bobby Coleman, that would make the " swollen moralizing " plot bearable. Likewise Sheri Linden lifted out the performances of the two in the magazine The Hollywood Reporter.
