Marton, New Zealand

Marton is a small town on the North Island of New Zealand and, with its almost 5,000 inhabitants administrative headquarters of the Rangitikei district in the Manawatu-Wanganui Region. The village is located about 20 kilometers north of the South Taranaki Bight, 35 kilometers southeast of Wanganui and 40 kilometers northwest of Palmerston North.

Marton is the largest city in the district of Rangitikei, was established in 1766 as Tutaenui. In 1769, when James Cook landed in New Zealand, the place was renamed after his hometown of Yorkshire.

Marton was originally a traditionally an agricultural town, this changed when she was in 1878 connected to the railway network. As a result of industrialization found its way, today the city has a large textile industry.
