Marun River

The marun (Persian رودخانه مارون Rudkhaneh -ye marun ) is a river in the province of Khuzestan in southwestern Iran.

The river originates from the Zagros Mountains and flows into the Karun, just before this (also Shatt al-Arab ) opens itself to the Arvand Rud. The water of the marun is used since the 20th century in the northern foothills of the rapidly growing city of Khorramshahr intensively for irrigation in agriculture.

In ancient times this river was probably Arosis, he formed due to its size, a natural border between Elam (modern Khuzestan ) and Persis (modern Fars ).
