Mary Barra

Mary Teresa Barra ( born December 24, 1961 in Waterford, Michigan as Mary Teresa Makela ) is an American manager. She was Executive Vice President and General Motors, Daniel Akerson replaced in January 2014 as CEO.

Life

Barras parents are from Finland. Her father worked as a mechanic for Pontiac. She herself began her professional career in 1981 at Pontiac. She studied electrical engineering at General Motors Institute (now Kettering University renamed). Followed in 1990 - with a scholarship from General Motors - the Master of Business Administration from the Stanford Graduate School of Business. After 30 years at GM, she led before taking over the overall responsibility as CEO last with global competence, the product development of the company and thus was responsible for a budget of approximately $ 15 billion. She serves on the board of the German GM subsidiary Adam Opel AG to. Barra is married and has two children.
