Masaharu Ueda

Masaharu Ueda ( born January 1, 1938 in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture) is a Japanese cameraman.

Life

Masaharu Ueda began his career in the film business as a camera assistant mid-1960s. Since 1971 he is active as an independent cameraman. In several films, he collaborated with director Akira Kurosawa.

Together with his colleagues Asakazu Nakai and Takao Saitō he was nominated for the 1986 film Ran for an Oscar in the category Best Cinematography. Saitō and he was also awarded the Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Cinematography.

In the Japanese Academy Awards he received in 1992, 1994 and 2001 respectively, the award for Best Cinematography.
