Mason (crater)

33.33

Mason represented the remains of a heavily eroded impact crater on the southern shore of Lacus Mortis in the northeastern quadrant of the Moon. He follows closely on the eastern edge of the flooded crater Plana. To the northwest is the crater guarantees and to the south of Lacus Somniorum spreads.

The outline of the heavily eroded crater Mason is elongated irregular and in East-West direction. The rim is an uneven ring of crumbling hills, which give way to the rugged terrain to the south and east. Canyons or valleys break the western edge and extend to the eastern rim of the crater Plana. The crater interior is flooded by basaltic lava, and a nearly flat basin within the crater rim.

In the northwestern area of the crater floor stands out of the small crater ' Mason A' from.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the British astronomer Charles Mason.
