Master of the Osservanza Triptych

The master of Osservanza (Italian Maestro dell'Osservanza ) was an Italian painter who was active 1440-1480. The Master belongs to the school of Siena and painted in the style of Byzantine -influenced art.

Naming

Originally a triptych in the Basilica in Siena dell'Osservanza was assigned to the painter Stefano di Giovanni Sassetta. However, art historians began then differences of the work to the style Sasettas to see and grouped this and a number of other pictures under the new Notnamen the Master of the Osservanza. Meanwhile, the works Sano di Pietro be assigned.
