Matej Mavrič

Matej Mavrič ( born January 29, 1979 in Koper, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Slovenian football player.

Career

Association

Mavrič played until 1997 for his local club, the Slovenian second division side NK Piran. As the first team descended into the low ranks, the young talent moved to the runner- NK Primorje from Ajdovščina. There, the central defender was a regular in the first two years to inserts in the first Slovenian league. After playing for Primorje 1999/2000 only three times during the season, he moved to league rivals ND Gorica. In 2001 he took his first title then, as the club from Nova Gorica won the National Cup. Until then, he was only a few uses, the following year he was then, however, the regular players.

In Gorica he was also in the following two years an integral part of the defense and completed almost all season games and 2004 the team took just under the title. This took Mavrič as an opportunity to continue his career abroad and he was taken from Norwegian first division side Molde FK under contract. There he was able to quickly gain a foothold and develop his career. He went also back in the Slovenian national team and was able to establish itself there in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup in 2006 as a regular player.

With the FK Molde played the Slovene against relegation and during the first year of the relegation zone were still avoided relegation in 2005 came only in the relegation. But the club was more successful in the Norwegian Cup. The team played up to the finals, where she won against Hønefoss even the title. This came Mavrič in 2006 to two UEFA Cup matches. Molde but sat down again this year firmly back on the last places in the table. The Slovene moved it to the back round to the 2nd Bundesliga in Germany: The TuS Koblenz lent him until season's end as reinforcement in a relegation battle, and engaged him in addition for the 2007/2008 season. After a fairly successful time in Koblenz from Slovenia joined with beginning of the season 2010/11 on the Austrian Bundesliga, the Kapfenberg SV. In the Upper Styrian he signed a contract with a term of three years.

In summer 2012 he returned Upper Styria 's back and returned to the home of Slovenia. Mavrič plays since at FC Koper.

National

The year 2002 brought not only a breakthrough in the club, who was also crowned with the repetition of winning the Cup for Matej Mavrič. On August 21, 2002, he was also the first time for the Slovenian national football team on the court, as he was substituted just before the end in a friendly match against Italy. However, the first remained his only game. It was not until after his move to Norway, he returned to the national team and was a regular player. It was also used in the qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2006. In May 2010 he was appointed by Slovenia coach Matjaz Kek in the National squad Slovenia to the Football World Cup 2010 in South Africa. In the tournament itself, he did not play. Slovenia was eliminated at the end of the group stage.
