Mathieu Turcotte

Mathieu Turcotte ( born February 8, 1977 in Sherbrooke, Quebec ) is a Canadian Shorttracker.

Mathieu Turcotte started with skating sport at the age of seven years. He lives in Montreal and runs for the club Sherbrooke. In Canada's short track speed skating national team he coached by Olympic champion Derrick Campbell. In the World Cup he made his debut in 1999. His first gold success in the World Cup succeeded in 2004 in Bormio, Italy, and in the season 2004/2005 he completed the 500 -meter competitions as the best runners from. At the World Championships he won in 2005 and twice in 2006 with the relay world title. About the 1500 - meter distance Mathieu holds the Canadian record and, together with his colleagues ( Tremblay, Hamelin, Robillard ) he holds the relay world record. With the APEX Racing Skates, whose president and co-founder he is, he developed ice for speed skating and short track speed skating sports.

At the Olympic Winter Games 1998, he had been taken only as a substitute. For the first time in competitions at the Olympics, he participated in the Winter Games in 2002 in Salt Lake City.
