Matjaž Vrhovnik

Matjaž Vrhovnik ( born May 6, 1972 in Ljubljana ) is a Slovenian former alpine skier. He drove almost exclusively slalom race.

Biography

Vrhovnik first appeared at the Junior World Championships 1991 international appearance. In the season 1994/95 he secured with two wins and four podium finishes in second place in the slalom standings of the European Cup. On February 19, 1995, he became the 14th of the slalom in Furano his first points in the World Cup.

In the following years, Vrhovnik was able to establish in the midfield, but without particular attention. This changed at the beginning of the 1999/2000 season, when he first went into the top ten. In the course of the season he was able to continuously improve and on 20 February 2000, he celebrated in Adelboden his only World Cup victory. He finished the season in 3rd place of the Slalom World Cup. In the following season he could not confirm these benefits and in 2002 he fell because of an injury from. End of the season 2002/ 03 he resigned from ski racing.

Vrhovnik once each took part in the Olympics and World Championships, but he was no more than 17 or 22 square. 1998 and 2000 he was Slovenian champion in slalom.
