Matjaž Zupan

Matjaž Zupan ( born September 27, 1966 in Kranj ) is a Slovenian ski jumping coach and former ski jumper.

He first worked as an assistant coach Heinz Koch for the Austrian national team. Since the season 1999/2000 he is the coach of the Slovenian ski jumping team. Zupan was 20 years and reached the World Cup ski jumping next to a 2nd place in ski flying in Planica (1988 ) with the Yugoslav team also 2nd place in team at the Olympic Games in Calgary.

Trainer successes

As a coach, his team has achieved good rankings on a regular basis, as in the season 2004/ 05 the silver medal at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oberstdorf on the normal hill. The highlights were, for example, the success of Peter Žonta in the season 2003/ 04 ( 3rd place in the Four Hills Tournament, top 10 ranking in the World Cup ) or the World Championship title for Rok Benkovič 2005 in Oberstdorf ( normal hill ). Zupan resigned after the 2005/06 season as head coach of the Slovenian team, his successor was Vasja Bajc. Zupan looked after two years the Czech B- squad until it was announced in April 2008 that he intended to replace in Slovenia Bajcs successor Ari -Pekka Nikkola as head coach.

For the 2011/12 season Zupan takes over the French team as head coach. In April 2012, he extended his contract in France until 2014.
