Matt Simon

Matthew " Matt" Simon ( born January 22, 1986 in Sydney ) is an Australian football player. The striker is the A- League club Central Coast Mariners under contract.

Club career

Simon began his active career at amateur side East Gosford, and then played for the Central Coast Lightning in the NSW Winter Super League. During the Pre -Season Cup 2006 Simon was the first time in the squad of the Central Coast Mariners, but had to vacate his place to start the season again. Towards the end of the season 2006/ 07 he came as a substitute for an injured player back in the squad and played in the last three games for the Mariners.

In the following season he was firmly in the squad and came to a total of 20 league operations, of which 16 per Substitutes. In the championship final against Newcastle United Jets he came on, but could not prevent the 0-1 defeat. His breakthrough came in the 2008 /09 season when he scored 11 goals this season and was thus only one goal behind top scorer Shane Smeltz.

From January until April 2013, he played in the K-League in Chunnam Dragons, but returned in May of the same year returned to the Mariners.

National

Simon graduated in 2008 several games for the Australian Olympic team and was nominated as a reserve player for the Olympic football tournament in China. After an injury of Archie Thompson, he was re-nominated for the final group match against Ivory Coast and came in the 0-1 defeat to 17 minutes use.

In early 2009 he was against Indonesia to qualify for the Asia Cup 2011 his debut in the senior team.
