Matthias Fletzberger

Matthias Fletzberger (born 1965 in Vienna) is an Austrian pianist and conductor.

Life

At the age of five he was (now the University of Music ) teaches at the Vienna Music Academy as one of the youngest students in piano and violin. In 1977 he won first prize in the National Music Competition " Young Musicians " and was inducted into the concert field with Hans Graf, where he in 1986 received his diploma. His other teachers included Jacques Rouvier, Tatjana Nikolaijewa, Leon Fleisher and Nicole Henriot - Schweitzer.

While still a student, he won international competitive prices, for example, the Silver Medal at the Busoni Competition in Bolzano, the gold medal at the Rubinstein Competition in Tel Aviv, as well as first prize at the Bösendorfer Competition in Vienna. From 1985 to 1991, he appeared in solo recitals, concertos, chamber music evenings and on radio and television programs on all continents.

Motivated by Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Rolf Liebermann and taught by Ferdinand Leitner and Carl Melles he turned to the theater. He worked as director of studies in Salzburg and at the Prague State Opera, as the musical director of the Vienna Art Nouveau theater, as a conductor at the Vienna Festival and as Kapellmeister at the Stadttheater St. Gallen.

In 1998, an artistic reorientation. He sought a new approach to music by organizing " clubbing " ( 70s, disco, house and techno) in Sofiensäle, the largest historic ballroom in Vienna, for up to 8,000 visitors per night. At the same time he tried to make a connection between classical music and clubbing by opening the house for opera and concert performances and also, cover, jazz and pop music in the overall concept.

2001 Sofiensäle were severely damaged by a fire. In January 2013 he made ​​his debut in America as part of the Salute to Vienna concert series.
