Matthias Müller (orienteering)

Matthias Leonhardt ( born September 12, 1982 as Matthias Müller ) is a Swiss orienteers. At the World Championships 2010 he won the gold medal in the sprint.

Mueller, who lives in Winterthur and starts for the clubs Södertälje - Nykvarn in Sweden and Bussola OK in Switzerland, was nominated for the 2002 World Junior Championships, where he achieved a 14th and a 19th place. In 2004 and 2005 he made his debut in European and World Championships. His first major international medals he finally won in 2007 at the Open Nordic Championships in Bornholm, as he finished third in the sprint and the relay along with Baptiste Rollier and Matthias Merz won gold. 2009 Müller missed at the World Championships in Miskolc, Hungary in the middle distance race just under the jump on the podium the following year should be the most successful in Müller's career. In Primorsko he won at the European Championships in the relay ( with Fabian Hertner and Matthias Merz ) Gold and came in all individual competitions in the top ten. At the World Championships in August in Trondheim he won the gold medal in the sprint ahead of his compatriot Fabian Hertner. With Matthias Merz and Daniel Hubmann also he took the bronze medal in the relay.

The title of the Swiss champion could not win Müller far. However, he won four times the bronze medal in the sprint and 2004 the silver medal in the relay.
