Matthias Schoenaerts

Matthias Schoenberg Aerts ( born December 8, 1977 in Antwerp) is a Belgian actor.

Life and career

Matthias Schoenaerts is the son of actor Julien Schoenaerts. He studied at the Drama Academy in Antwerp. His film debut was at the age of 15 years in the Oscar - nominated film " Daens " of the Flemish film director Stijn Coninx. After his studies he played in various TV series and movies. In 2003 he was appointed at the Berlinale by the European Film Promotion to "Shooting Star". In 2008 he played the role of Filip Loft - Deadly affairs director Erik Van Looy of, the most successful Belgian film. In 2011, he starred in the lead role of Bullhead, a film by Belgian director Michaël R. Roskam, who received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film. Schoenaerts won several awards including the Belgian Magritte price, the Next Wave Award in Austin (Texas, USA) and the FIPRESCI Award for Best Actor at the Palm Springs International Film Festival for his role. In 2012 he took over the male lead in The taste of Rust and Bone by Jacques Audiard on the side of the French Oscar-winning actress Marion Cotillard. His portrayal of Ali earned him the 2013 César Award for Best Young Actor in. Schoenaerts also played in the Belgian short film Dood van een Schaduw by director Tom Van Avermaet. 2013, this film was nominated in the Academy Awards for Best Short Film. This year, two more movies with Schoenaerts be in theaters. Firstly, a remake of Loft, which is scheduled for April 2013. Secondly, Blood Ties, a film by French director Guillaume Canet, in which Clive Owen, Marion Cotillard and Mila Kunis play. He is expected to be published in June 2013. In planning for 2013 is also a role in Wasteland by Pieter Van Hees.
