Matzlow-Garwitz

Matzlow -Garwitz was a municipality in the southwest of the district Parchim in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern ( Germany ). It consisted of the two districts and Garwitz Matzlow belonging to the newly formed community Lewitz edge since 7 June 2009.

On the municipal area of 18.46 km ² lived on 31 December 2007 681 inhabitants.

Geography and transport

The former municipality is located approximately eleven kilometers west of Parchim both sides of the Müritz- Elde waterway in the flat Eldeniederung and has at this one Wasserwanderrastplatz. The east of the former municipality is forested, while the rest is mostly used for agriculture.

The community was located north of Federal Street 191 Federal Highway 24 is accessible via the junction Neustadt- Glewe.

History

Already in 1230 Garwitz had probably had its own parish. 1275 was the first documentary mention as Kirchdorf (then known as Gargeviz ). The place was named after his Slavic locator GARZ.

After 1300 the construction of the Gothic church was at the place. In 1351 the first documentary mention of the place Matzlow was (then Maslowe ). As Garwitz was the place for his Slavic locator, in the case Macal, named.

1920 Matzlow became an independent municipality in the Neustadt. On 4 May 1945, the Eldebrücke was blown up by German troops. In 1965 the Association of Cities and Garwitz Matzlow or the founding of the church Matzlow -Garwitz. To coincide with the local elections on 7 June 2009, the municipalities Matzlow -Garwitz, Raduhn and jack merged to form the new municipality Lewitz edge.
