Maurice Zermatten

Maurice Zermatten ( born October 22, 1910 in Saint -Martin, Valais, † February 11, 2001 in Sion ) was a Swiss writer.

In the center of Zermattens literary work was his home canton of Valais. He described people from the rural milieu in moral and religious borderline situations. His first novel, Le coeur inutile was published in 1936; other novels are La Colère de Dieu (1940 ), Christine ( 1944) and La Porte Blanche ( 1973).

He also published literary critical works on several Swiss authors, including Charles Ferdinand Ramuz, Gonzague de Reynold and Léon Savary.

As President of the Swiss writers association, he triggered the elimination of the group, founded in 1970 Olten, as he translated the book into French official civil defense, which prompted the spirit of the Cold War, the population of mutual spying and was distributed to all households.
