Mauro Silva

Mauro Silva, ( born 12 January 1968 in São Bernardo do Campo, Sao Paulo, Brazil) with full name Mauro da Silva Gomes, is a former Brazilian footballer.

The defensive midfielder played from 1990 to 1992 for the CA Bragantino and grew to become one of the strongest football players in the Brazilian league. 1991 Mauro Silva was awarded the Bola de Ouro.

From 1992 to 2005 he played for the Spanish side Deportivo de La Coruña. With its objective, dispassionate way of playing Mauro Silva was a mainstay of the team that was champion in 2000. At times he even held the captaincy. Deportivo developed into a real top team and was for some years a regular guest of the UEFA Champions League.

Mauro Silva completed a total of 59 caps for the Seleção. In the 1994 World Cup in the USA, he belonged to the tribe formation and formed together with Carlos Dunga central midfield of the future honoree.
