Max Palmer

Max Edmund Palmer ( born November 2, 1927 in Clarksdale, Mississippi; † 7 MAY 1984 St. Louis, Missouri ) was an American actor and wrestler who was known primarily for his body length of 2.31 meters.

Max Palmer was born in a small town in Mississippi and had three siblings of normal body size.

First, Palmer played basketball in high school, which he left after the 11th grade. At the age of 18 he began to develop a drinking problem. He worked as a bartender and bouncer.

Due to its size, he was given the opportunity to appear in several films and series, including in Invaders from Mars and Killer Ape (together with Johnny Weissmuller ). He was also invited to some shows such as, for example, Dean Martin / Jerry Lewis Comedy Hour, or The Jimmy Durante Show.

After his brief acting career 1952-1954 he began a period as a professional wrestler in Salt Lake City, Utah. He has performed under the name of Paul Bunyan wrestler who leaned on the legendary lumberjack gigantic figure. From announcer he was touted with a height of up to about 8 feet (2.44 m) and a weight of 500 American pounds (about 227 kg ). However, his true height was approximately 2.31 ​​m and its weight was lower. Due to health issues that resulted from his alcohol consumption, ended his wrestling career in 1960 at the age of only 33 years.

1963 Palmer, now recovering alcoholic, a Protestant clergyman was preaching until his death as " Goliath for Christ". He died in 1984 of heart failure.

Palmer was married from 1975 until his death. His wife Betty was the mother of former major league baseball player Jim Palmer, who was adopted by Max Palmer.
