Maxine Weldon

Maxine Weldon (* in Holdenville, Oklahoma ) is an American singer in the area of ​​soul, rhythm and blues and jazz.

Biography

Weldon was the fourth of six children of a music teacher. She grew up in Bakersfield ( California ), where she first worked on country music. She moved it to Honolulu, where she first worked as a nurse full time, then began a career as a professional singer, and appeared in local clubs.

She toured five years through Asia, married in South Korea and returned in 1965 with her ​​son in the United States back. They lived first in San Francisco, where she had engagements in clubs again; In 1969 she went to Los Angeles, where she (1972 /73) and 1979, a greater awareness by appearances in television shows with Bill Cosby, on the Tonight Show by participation in a Billie Holiday Tribute concert series with Nina Simone, Carmen McRae Morgana King and Esther Phillips acquired.

She was inducted into the Oklahoma Jazz Hall of Fame in 1999.

Welson had a cameo appearance in an episode of the sitcom Sister, Sister (1994).
