M&D Flugzeugbau Samburo

The AVO 68 " Samburo " is a two-seat touring motor glider that was originally manufactured in Austria by the company Alpla.

History

The motor glider project " Samburo " was launched in mid -1970s by Alwin Lehner to life. Together with the designer Werner Vogel, who was the technical director of the project, the touring motor glider Samburo was developed at Alpla. By 1979, a total of 29 Samburo were built; after production ceased. The construction plans were taken mid -1990s, the " aviation workshop Gerhard Nitsche " in Unterwoessen. This operation it developed into the towing motor glider to allow the cost of towing gliders. In addition to the widening of the hull to improve comfort in the cockpit was also a change of the drive on the 80 hp Rotax 912 payable A. For aerotow put this motor with quieter water cooling system and dual ignition to improve operating safety, the first choice dar.

Since 1996, the LTB Nitsche was taken over by the " Aircraft GmbH Phillipp ". In early 1998 the now powered with Rotax engine Samburo was admitted to the glider towing as the first German motor sailer in Germany by the Federal Aviation Authority.

In 2004 all rights to the Samburo of the "M & D Flugzeugbau GmbH & Co. KG" in Marx ( county Witt mouth) were taken. Before the resumption of production, the overall concept of the powered sailplane was revised again, where in the meantime developed more modern materials miteinflossen into the design. 2006 saw the start of production of the new prototype, which on 25 January 2008 had its first flight. The first produced in Marx Samburo with the registration D - kmud was delivered on 20 May 2008 to the air sports community Waterkant Zetel. Currently the Samburo is offered in two variants: Basic Samburo with 100 -horsepower and Samburo Plus with 115 -horsepower engine and C -VFR equipment.

Construction

The Samburo is produced in composite construction, the hull consists of stringed steel tube, wings and tail are wooden structures, in the latest version CFRP parts in addition be used. In the original version, the Avo resembled the Scheibe SF 25 falcon, the chassis had a main wheel with integrated drum brake, one with the rudder control coupled tail wheel and two each attached to the wing center support wheels. In revising the chassis against a two-leg landing gear was replaced, the one with the hydraulic single wheel, in combination, a significantly enhanced ground handling. In contrast to the Falcon cockpit but entered on the wings.

The engines of the original version were within the then Available 45-68 hp, each based on VW boxer engines. Later, a 2000 - cm3 -Limbach - flight engine was installed, the (80 PS) at 3400 rpm and develops in combination with a Hoffmann- pitch propeller ( three positions: takeoff, cruise and sailing) a power of about 59 kW to significantly improved flight performance led. Meanwhile, the engine on Rotax engines was switched with services 80-115 hp, the more efficient work by water cooling and reduction gear and in combination with a constant- speed propeller of Hoffmann as the air-cooled engines on a VW platform and thus significantly can operate more quietly. After the meantime of the increase in the maximum permissible take-off weight to 825 kg of the Avo has a usable payload of about 240 kg, which makes it possible to carry two adults plus luggage with full tanks.

The Rotax engines give the Samburo sufficient power reserves for the cost of towing gliders; with the Rotax 914F are up to 800 kg trailer weight permitted the consumption then rises to 22 liters per hour.
