Mecklenburg Elbe Valley Nature Park
The nature park Mecklenburgisches Elbe Valley is a part of over 400 river kilometer UNESCO Elbe River Landscape Biosphere Reserve, which includes the five federal states of Saxony -Anhalt, Brandenburg, Lower Saxony, Mecklenburg- Vorpommern and Schleswig -Holstein. It is located in the district of Ludwigsburg pleasure Parchim in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The nature reserve was established in 1990 with a preliminary security to life and set in 1998 with a final state regulation with an area of 426 km ².
Characteristic is the original river landscape of the Elbe stream with its tributaries Schaale, brews, Krainke, Rögnitz, Löcknitz and the Müritz- Elde waterway. Feature are the inland dunes in sandy dry grasslands, forests and meadows, as well as the steep banks of the Elbe slopes at Boizenburg and Rüterberg ( Doemitz ), which offer a panoramic view of the River Elbe from the observation towers.
The nature park is located on the right bank of the Elbe at Elbe - km 502-511 and 555-565 as well as between the borders of Schleswig-Holstein and Brandenburg. Within the area are the villages of Boizenburg, Luebtheen and Doemitz.
Interesting and informative are the Lübtheener reed adventure trail, dunes trail in the Reserve " Elbe Valley dunes in small Schmölen " the trail at the Rueter Berger clay pit and a trail in Dammereezer park. Culture History of importance is the fortress in Doemitz and unique is the " First German Tile Museum 's" Tile City Boizenburg / Elbe.
Since 1 January 2009, the park administration is associated with the Schaalsee to perceive the tasks as a biosphere reserve better.
