Medernach ( Lux: Miedernach ) is a town in the Luxembourg Ernztalgemeinde. Until the end of 2011 Medernach was the chief town of the same name, which belonged to the canton of Diekirch. The community Ermsdorf was merged on 1 January 2012 with Ermsdorf to Ernztalgemeinde.

Geography

Location

Medernach located in the canton Diekirch and thus in the northeastern part of Luxembourg. The former church is only counted to the north of the country, but still belongs to the Gutland and not to Ösling. By Medernach the White Ernz flows.

Composition of the former municipality

The former municipality Medernach consisted of the villages Medernach, Savelborn, Marxbierg, Osterbour ( Ousterbur ) Pletschette and Kitzebur. The location Medernach formed with about 900 inhabitants, most of the community. Savelborn was equal to two communities. Although most of this small town belonged with more than 80 residents of the municipality Medernach, a farm community forest airline has been assigned.
